why is it that you can get your friends to eat a really hot pepper, but your coworkers just won't go for it, even when you offer them money? stupid mature, professional people..... oh, i'll get someone to do it. get a few drinks in them, they'll do anything. |

ha, it's been like months since i updated. i've just been pulling all my hair out over this financial crisis. that and i've been busy. busy at work, busy at home. mostly i've been playing lots of dr. mario on the wii. we still haven't sold our condo, and if we don't get a buyer within a few weeks, we will begin to look for a tenant to rent it out.
i've been drinking a lot lately (sounds bad), but it's mostly happy hours with coworkers. we have started celebrating my departure already. everyone is happy to see me go. just the other day one guy asked me, "HOW many weeks do you have left?" yeah, i get that a lot. no, everyone likes me here. no idea why.
right now my cubicle smells like crayons. that happens sometimes, but i know it ain't crayons.
i'm getting over being sick (again). i was sick a month ago, then got sick 3 weeks later. i still have a lingering cough, but i feel fine. fine enough to drink. last friday was a happy hour with matt and 2 coworkers. we went to rudy's in new haven. i almost got us thrown out but didn't succeed. i had a little too much to drink. ok, a lot too much to drink. good times. i'm gonna miss these people. 5 years of my life i spent the majority of my time with them. they are like family. a family that makes me work all the damn time.
i finally have someone working for me now. when i leave he will take over the projects that i'm doing now. so now i have him do all the shit i don't want to do. ha ha!
i need to come up with a halloween costume. i think i'm going to be a scientist. wait, yeah. not creative at all. not even my idea. but it's something.
a few weeks ago i went to a party and drank way too much, but it was so much that i actually almost won a shotgun duel. i must've drank my can of beer in sub 3 seconds, but i was still 2nd to finish. the other guy missed me with his can so i charged and thew my can at him and missed from like 5 feet away. then i got tackled. then matt ended up on top, and someone else ended up on top of him. i couldn't breath, but that asshole on the bottom couldn't move. all he could say was he can take 1 calabrese, but not two. that's right. and i didn't even throw up.
can't say the same for friday though |

| | pissed off | ] | i have these very conservative religious type relatives in texas, and i keep getting these obama/liberal bashing emails from them that they forward to everyone in the family. i'm not sure if they think i agree with their point of view, or if they're trying to annoy me or convert me, but it's really pissing me off. this has been going on for like a year now, and i have no idea how to yell at them without sounding like a bitch (which they would probably just attribute to the fact that i'm a liberal). i've gotten emails about hillary clinton, obama, liberals in general, all saying nasty things and making up shit and twisting the truth to make them look bad. how come i never get any conservative bashing emails? is it that the conservatives have nothing wrong, or is it that the liberals feel that it is childish and unnecessary to bash them (via email), since they seem to be doing a fine job of that themselves? i just can't take it anymore! i DO find it offensive and i take it personally each time i get one of these emails, but i don't know how to tell my aunt to stop sending them to me without (a) hurting her (she is family) and (b) sounding like a bitch. ugh. what a pain in the ass. |

it's amazing what kind of crap people will buy on ebay. we've recently sold some nintendo games (not bad), but we've also sold some old Nintendo Powers (really beat up) and tip magazines for super mario bros 2 with stains on them. WTF?! and we sold some broken controllers & zapper gun for over $10. i don't understand these people. these were things i was going to throw in the garbage but thought, what the hell, why not try. we still have a huge pile of crap to sell, but we're getting through it slowly. hopefully we will have it gone by the time we move.
let's see, the week in NC was awesome. i will post pics as soon as i can get them on matt's computer (my home computer is f***ked). lots of fishing, some beach time, got a nice tan. this past weekend went to Mass. to Brad's parents' house. did some water skiing, jet skiing, a little fishing. it was awesome. i'm very sore still. i only fished for less than an hour and caught like 6 fish, two of which were pickerel. sweet! i tried to water ski on one ski, but couldn't do it, so i just stuck to two. i guess i can't do the slalom course. brad is an awesome water skier. he is rather impressive to watch. he's been skiing since he was four. crazy.
when we picked up smitty from his babysitter after the weekend, he smelled like the other dog he was with. it takes a few days for him to lose the smell. i don't like it. i think he's ok now. only 45 minutes, then i can go home. yay! cleaning time.... |

so we've been pretty busy lately... we're in the middle of painting our place to make it nice and pretty to sell. we've painted molding mostly, but then we'll move on to the walls. we're probably about 60% done with the molding/door frames/window frames. i think we've decided not to paint the ceilings b/c they are pretty good as it is and that would be a helluva lot of work for not much gain. once we're done with the molding then we can paint the walls - yay! lots of work to do.
we're leaving for memphis on monday, catching our flight at 9:00 am. i have to take three days off from work to go there for one day. urrr. oh well. i'm excited about the trip cuz i'll finally get to see memphis and make my own judgements. while we're gone we're leaving smitty with some coworkers...
who just recently i've begun to talk to. i've worked with these people for two years and made it a point to avoid them at all costs. not because i didn't like them, but because i don't like to talk to anyone (you know, i hate people). but recently, whether it's b/c i know i am only here for a limited time or b/c one of them made a point a few weeks back by saying to another coworker of mine in front of me, "Allison doesn't talk to me, and she just puts up with walter." it made me laugh, but also made me realize that it was sad and true. so i made it a point to talk to this person and another coworker more (who rent a house together with some other friends). we've hung out together a few times since, and last friday went to a happy hour with a bunch of other coworkers to celebrate our summer hours (getting out at 1:00 fridays). so we went to the bar at 1:00. not a great move, especially when you don't eat food, but it was a good time. but it was a successful outing because i convinced my drunk coworker to dog sit smitty while matt and i are gone. he didn't remember agreeing to it (neither did i, but matt reminded me). so i held him to it and now he's dogsitting. it's funny how things work out, because i was just going to have my brother watch smitty, but he's having a full house next week and isn't able to watch him. so this works out perfectly. and they are much closer than milford, so we don't have to drive all the way there to drop off/pick up smitty. hopefully smitty will have fun with their two dogs and not cause too much trouble.
in two weeks matt, me, brad and robin are going down to north carolina to robin's parents' house again. it was so nice there when we went two years ago. so relaxing. fishing, napping, reading, kayaking, swimming. i can't wait.
i need to find something to eat for lunch. |

it only takes a five minute conversation with a coworker about college to make me really miss it again. that bastard. we talked about how there was minimal responsibility but maximum freedom. now those have leveled out a bit. stupid responsibilities. kind of makes me want to go out drinking in a place with loud music with fun people. it makes me sad. very sad. what happened? |

i had this weird dream last night that my cousin had a dog that pooped out of the end of its tail. it's tail was probably about a foot long and was really large in diameter - imagine a big sausage (none of that dog dick, i'm talking the tick stuff). and there was a butthole at the end of the tail. it wasn't so much of a tail as it was a foot long extension of its colon out of its body. it was pretty gross. and i saw it poop. |

2003 - Circus Circus 2004 - Tropicana 2005 - Excalibur 2007 - Luxor & 4 Queens 2008 - Monte Carlo Next stop, Mandalay Bay!! See you next year!
Remember the first trip to vegas and our dream was to be able to stay at Mandalay Bay some day. I never thought it would happen. Not this year, but next year we are totally staying there. We could this year, but since kate is coming and matt wants to stay somewhere he can gamble, it’s the Monte Carlo. I can’t believe how affordable it (MB) is (relative to when we were there our first year). It would be under $600 for the 3 nights to stay there this year. I want to stay in one of the spa rooms. How sweet would that be. At least that gives me something to look forward to next year.
Not much other news - matt is on an interview today at Penn. We go to Memphis june 9th. North Carolina june 22nd . vegas august 30th. Then Memphis/philly/somewhere else.
We’re getting ready to pain the condo. I’m getting started on the molding, then we’ll try to tackle the walls once that’s done. What a pain in the ass. At least it gives me something constructive to do.
In super Mario galaxy I have over 90 stars (finally surpassing matt) and I got the flying star. I am delaying fighting bowser b/c I don’t want to mentally think I’ve beaten the game and stop playing. Nobody cares.
I have summer hours now which make the days feel like they go on forever. I don’t like coming in at 8:00. I just can’t get myself out of bed in time. |

latest things:
- matt and I booking our trip to vegas. we didn't think it was going to happen since it fell through for late may, but we stuck to our guns and bought plane tix for late summer. go us! we won't miss another year.
- matt had his last committee meeting yesterday, meaning they gave him the OK to leave. he just has to finish up his latest paper (our for review) and write his thesis. then he ust has to coordinate leaving with his new PI (who he hasn’t chosen yet) and his current PI, as well as consulting with me. So we may be leaving in as soon as a few months, no later than early next year. I can’t believe he’s done with grad school! my little boy is growing up.
- i have some weird condition right now where sometimes when i stand up i get all lightheaded and feel like i'm going to pass out. i've been going to the doctor, and am right in the middle of trying to figure it out. weird stuff.
- i have a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch today, along with a banana and a yogurt
- i've been running, but not as much as i should. i ran over 5 miles one day last week, so that is now my longest run of the year so far. my average is about 2.75 to 3 when i do run. i'm getting better/faster though. too bad i will miss the labor day race.
- a few weeks ago i had to give a presentation in front of a bunch of senior execs. i kicked ass. they were mucho impressed. go me! too bad i'm leaving in a few months
- smitty is still awesome. he got a bath the other day and he is now so soft. we've kicked him out of the bedroom at night now to try to get him to realize he is not equal and maybe get him to listen better. both matt and i have been sleeping better. smitty still does not listen.
- not many weekend plans - matt's mom and carl are coming up saturday to visit, then in the evening it's either going to my coworkers' party or matt's coworkers' party. sunday is lazy. i can't wait.
that's it |

alright tonia, here you go: today i had some leftover pasta with broccoli in it, as well as some grapes, a banana, a packet of cheese crackers and a peanut butter crunchy bar. and it was delicious. but now i'm really full. at least i don't have to eat until dinner.
i want to go work in the lab, but we have a meeting in 40 minutes, and i'm afraid if i go in there i will forget we have this meeting. so i will sit here and do computer stuff once i'm done with this. maybe i'll read some papers.
this past weekend matt and i went skiing for the first time since colorado (well, matt went friday, but it was the first time for me), and we were both REALLY sore from moving our friend kate on saturday. our legs ached, but we went anyway. the conditions were superb. it had snowed about a foot saturday, so there was fresh powder on the mountain. but it was a short day as we were tired. but then we got home early enough that we could go grocery shopping and do some household chores.
tonight i have my cake decorating class. it started last tuesday. we learn a different technique each week (for 4 weeks). last week we learned color flow. it's pretty good, and even if it wasn't, it was only $27. not like that wilton class that sucked, cost $25, but then made you buy like $50 worth of supplies for the class. bastards! and the wilton teacher was terrible.
i need to practice my guitar hero skills. i played sunday night and learned about hammer-ons and pull-offs, and i need to hone those skills so i can kick ass. but i also need to beat metroid prime 3, then play mario galaxy, super paper mario, and learn to play madden. i also have to start trying to go to the gym. i went last monday and ran 2 miles before my lungs started to feel like they were burning, my throat tasted like blood, and i could hear liquid or some liquid substance moving every time i took a breath. soon though, very soon. even today it is over 50 degrees outside. i can't wait for spring! |

| | sick | ] | jeez, i guess it's been a while since i posted. let's see, what's happened. been REALLY busy at work, which is a great thing. i actually like my job now! i kind of have my own project where i have to do research, experiments, and writing reports! oh boy! smitty is doing awesome, although his breath has been stinky lately. colorado was AWESOME. we skied 3 days while we were there, and also managed to get in some snow tubing and snowmobiling. when we were snowmobiling, there was one girl on one machine right at the beginning and she couldn't control it and she hit a road sign, then drove her snowmobile right into a tree. she flew off the back of it and landed in the snow. crazy. she was fine, the snowmobile, not so much. i have never seen so much snow in my life as up there in winter park. it didn't stop the entire time we were there, and there was already like 10 feet on the ground. literally. the skiing on the mountain was GREAT. we had the best single day skiing ever on the tuesday. it was just matt, me and my cousin laura that day. we went up to the tippity top of the mountain (12000+ feet) that day. we were above the tree line! we just skied whereever, down moguls, blues, blacks, blue/blacks. it was so pretty b/c the trails up there weren't well defined trails. they were glades full of trees all over, so everyone could go their own way. i even went off a jump and got like 2 feet of air. it was awesome! i have to get the pics from my cousin. i only took like 4 myself. so colorado was awesome, but matt got sick towards the end of the week, then i found myself sick on the saturday we had to travel home. let me tell you, it sucks to travel with the flu. we both had it pretty bad and on top of it all, our plane out of midway was F***ed up and we had to switch planes, so we ended up getting home around midnight instead of 10:00, and then i had to drive home. ugh. then i was out of work for a week. but i'm back now, almost healthy (i'm still coughing my brains out and feel like something is going to come out) and matt is almost healthy as well, although he didn't take any sick time, the mitch. he's happy now b/c he finally submitted his paper that he's been working on for 3 months, although it will surely be rejected, but it's finally out of his hands for now. so we're going to celebrate. maybe by spending some time together! i've been sleeping when i get home, and he doesn't get home til late most days. one more thing - matt got invited down for an interview at St. Jude's in memphis at the end of march. he pretty excited about that - 43 applicants were invited down for their post doc program out of like 700. and if he decided to go there, we'd be gone by next march. but we'll be gone by next may anyway. crazy! |

ugh, tired today. i guess a full day isn't enough to recover from skiing. matt and i went up to Okemo saturday. we left at 7 a.m., skied for about 5 hours, then came home. the conditions were much better saturday than they were at stratton the week before. there it was about 17 degrees at the base at the warmest part of the day. the peak was single digits and windy as hell. i will definitely be checking the weather before going there again. but okemo was warm, had fresh snow, and wasn't windy. the conditions were perfect. and it wasn't too crowded. the only bad part of the day was when i lost control going towards a blocked off trail and ended up falling on my face. i heard a loud crunching sound and thought i broke my nose. turns out, my goggles broke, but i still may have broken my nose. it isn't visibly crooked, but hurts like a bitch and is purple on the bridge. so yeah, good times. it scared the hell out of me when it happened, but since there was no blood and my nose didn't hurt to touch it (then, anyway), we finished out the day taking a few more runs. but now my neck hurts, possibly some minor whiplash from landing on my face and having my head bounce backwards b/c of the helmet. but we still plan on going back this weekend. hopefully we can stay at matt's aunt's house in springfield, as the 5 hours of driving each day is less than desirable. if anybody wants to go skiing/snowboarding this season, let us know. we'll be going most, if not all, weekends. we will be mostly limited to stratton and okemo, as that's where our passes are for, but so far they are pretty damn good. okemo is better by far, but both are a helluva lot bigger than CT mountains. and okemo has a ski/snowboard for free until dec 21. you get a lesson, rentals, and access to the lower mountain, all for FREE. so, any newbies want to give it a shot? we'll drive. just try not to land on your face when you're there. |

well, back from aruba. i can't say the trip was uneventful - it was crazy. matt, jon and me arrived friday afternoon to a big rainstorm. it rained much of the afternoon, so we didn't get any time on the beach. we spent the evening drinking at the hotel bar. my sister's wedding was saturday evening on the beach, at sunset. it was really nice, but their main intent wasn't to have a nice wedding, but to have one hell of a party. and they did. they insisted everyone have their money's worth of the open bar, and i think we came close. it was a crazy evening, i don't remember most of it, but i do know that about 1/2 way through it started raining. hard. and the reception was outside, so all the workers ran away and left a select few of us there to brave the rain. we took advantage of the situation to make ourselves drinks at the bar and for matt to carve the roast beef. i remember looking around and seeing matt at the carving station, big knife in hand (this is after the rain) and him yelling to me, "allison!! i'm carving the meat!!" and people were eating it. it was great. we all smoked some cuban cigars and then got kicked out early because of some inappropriate behavior by the best man. it was all good. we spent some more time at the hotel bar then. when matt and i finally headed to bed (around midnight) i got in the room and thought my brother was dead on the bed. he was on his back, mouth agape, eyes wide open. i called his name, no response. i poked him, no reponse. i shook him, no response. i got really nervous, then started scraping his nipple with a card i found in the room, no response. finally, i gave him one hell of a purple nurple. i got an "owwwww" and he rolled over, then proceeded to get up and vomit in the toilet. ahh, good times. but who the hell sleeps with their eyes wide open? whatever. the rest of the time we spent either on the beach or walking around. it was very relaxing. i will post pictures when i get them from other people. it was beautiful there. we saw the fallen natural bridge, which isn't so impressive as a pile of rubble. crazy times. |

[Nov. 21st, 2007|01:00 pm] |
i know i'm guilty for a lack of updates lately, but i'm just lazy. every time i think about doing it, it makes me not want to. lots has been going on, so let's see. last week matt and i went to a talk this lady at my work was giving on the benefits of honey and bee venom. the talk (which took place in the evening near where we live, which is why we went) included tastings of various honeys in addition to some demonstrations of bee venom application. the way bee venom is administered is that you take a honey bee and make it sting you where you have pain. apparently you can order them for this purpose. many people opted for the stinging, but i didn't do it. i waited until thursday. i have this pain in my leg, at the butt joint, that is a result of running. so i brought a pair of shorts in to work and we did it in the bathroom. i got stung twice on my ass. well, just below. it hurt a lot after the ice wore off. and it didn't do anything. i still have that damn pain. it was worth a shot though.
this past saturday we were going to go to the yale harvard game in new haven. we met up with brad, robin, adam and stephanie at 9:00 and headed off to central ave. well, we made it to about 1/2 mile from the stadium before we got stuck in traffic. bad traffic. like, we traveled about 150 feet in an hour. and since the entire purpose of our outing was to tailgate, we couldn't just park somewhere and walk it. then we found out that the parking lot we were aiming for was full. so we all said fuck it and went to our condo to tailgate and watch the game on tv. it was much better this way anyway. and on the way to the parkway to get home we drove up 34, which was backed up at least 5 miles, stopped, on the way to the game. craziness. yale got blown out by harvard. the game was awful, but the food and company were good.
saturday evening was my sister's bachelorette party. i won't go into too much detail, except there was copious amounts of drinking, bar hopping and a stripper. i was a DD, so i had like 2 drinks all night, but i got to observe some very, very drunken behavior. hilarious. but my sister forgot her candy underwear in the backseat of my car, so i must remember to return that to her in aruba.
tomorrow is thanksgiving with matt's family. everyone in my family, with the exception of me, jon, becca and the kids, is already in aruba, so that left us having to go to matt's. it's no problem at all, we don't have to cook anything or help in any way, but we'll be kicked out by 3:00 and we can't drink much. it just won't be a real thanksgiving without a bunch of drunks sitting around watching football. oh well. then we have to pack and leave bright and early for aruba on friday morning. i'm just glad i don't have to go to work for 6 days! this might actually be a relaxing vacation. i haven't had one of those this year.
ahh, and i get to leave pretty much any time i want from work today. sometimes, life is good. |

waaaay tired today. last night we spent over at kate standish's apartment watching monday night football. we didn't stay for overtime, but we didn't need to. and now i'm dragging. bitchy tired. and i couldn't have breakfast this morning because we have no milk. so now i'm eating pretzels. ugh.
our fishing trip for this past saturday was cancelled due to inclement weather. i guess it's not a good idea to go out on a small boat in the ocean if there are going to be gale force winds. so instead, matt and i did nothing all day, then listed stuff on ebay. sunday morning we ran in the halloween 5k in downtown new haven. i didn't beat my goal of breaking 30 minutes, but i broke 31. it was so freaking cold, which is what i blame it on. i still have a cough left over from it. and at the end of the race i ran so hard that i was dry heaving. if i had eaten breakfast that morning, it would haven been all over the road. i thought it was really funny. as i was giving the girl my tag for the time she said "oh it's ok. you can throw up." i ran over to a nearby dumpster and proceeded dry heave some more and to expel some saliva. i was laughing so hard. that's never happened to me before.
and i beat bob in fantasy football this week. i was afraid that i was going to lose, but then i thought, what am i thinking. of course i'm going to win. and i did . |

got my first night's sleep in weeks last night. it was heavenly. i hadn't been able to sleep through a night for about a month now, just tossing and turning all night. but that did make it easier to get up at 5:30 to go to the gym. i didn't wake up until 6 this morning! wonderful. i needed it after yesterday's work stress. and today is my evaluation. we'll see how it goes. apparently they are reorganizing our group, but nothing is changing for me. too bad. i could use a change. |

back to work. this weekend felt like it was very long, but maybe that's becuase i had a hard time sleeping, with smitty all curled up on me in the bed because matt wasn't there. seriously, i just want my space, dog. he can't let me have 2 inches of breathing room. nope, right up in my biz-nass.
i'm hoping to get a call very soon from Allstate about a) my car getting finished (i'm so sick of this PIECE i have to drive) or b) a settlement about my injuries. maybe i'll call them tomorrow.
i'm so hungry. i guess an apple and a yogurt aren't enough for lunch.
our annual reviews will be taking place sometime within the next few weeks. i hope i have a good one. i've done some good work the past few years. here's hoping someone else noticed.
time to go home! |
